Hamlin Fistula New Zealand
At Hopefish we are constantly inspired by organisations working quietly but powerfully to restore dignity and opportunity to women whose lives have been shaped by circumstances beyond their control. One such organisation is Hamlin Fistula New Zealand, which supports the extraordinary work of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia.
Founded by Drs Reg and Catherine Hamlin, the organisation provides life changing surgery and rehabilitation for women who have suffered obstetric fistula, a devastating childbirth injury caused by prolonged obstructed labour. In parts of Ethiopia where access to skilled maternity care is limited, many women endure these injuries and are left incontinent, often facing deep social isolation and abandonment from their communities.
The Hamlin hospitals and care programmes offer not only surgery, but compassion, rehabilitation, and the opportunity for women to rebuild their lives with dignity.
Hopefish is delighted to contribute $2,000 in support of this work, helping women receive the treatment and care they deserve. It is also wonderful to see individuals stepping forward to support this mission firsthand, travelling to Ethiopia to better understand and advocate for the work being done.
This is exactly the kind of initiative Hopefish exists to support. Women supporting women, across borders, cultures and circumstances, restoring mana and creating pathways back to health, confidence and community.
We wish the Hamlin team every success as they continue this vital work and are proud to stand alongside them in a small way.
